There Is No Such Thing as an Accident

Today in the NYT it was announced that the NYPD is changing the name of the accident investigation to the collision investigation squad and its byzantine policy of waiting for someone to die before initiating an investigation.

My beautiful and brilliant wife said this, which has also been on the front page of Citystreets Website for over 10 years.

I don’t believe there is such a thing as a ‘car accident’. An accident is that which can be not be avoided. Most incidents that involve cars can be traced back to someone doing something wrong. Be it careless driving, speeding, unmaintained vehicle, poor road condition or bad signage. Call them car crashes, they are not accidents.
